Minutes of the 11 August 1995 meeting of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency concerning the recent Srebrenica events which shed light on a number of controversial issues. Firstly, President Alija Izetbegović estimates the real number of executions at 3,000, considerably below the 8,000 figure which ultimately gained currency, and states that at the time he spoke (almost a month after the event) about 2,000 were considered to be missing. Chief of the General Staff of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Rasim Delić, speaks openly of the illegal arming of a 4,500-man strong 28. Division within the supposedly “demilitarized” Srebrenica enclave. Finally, Presidency member Haris Silajdžić states that the true population of Srebrenica enclave was about 35,000 to 36,000 and that higher figures referred to were for public consumption and motivated by propaganda reasons. The credibility of this document is enhanced by its pro foro interno character. It is noteworthy that in this interaction among BiH Presidency members the word “genocide” was not mentioned by anyone.
